SDSLS instructor, Loreen Mattis (aka Morgan Carlisle) is hosting a three session armored spear workshop at LionHeart Academy. The class meets August 3, 10, and 17 from 2:30 - 3:30 pm.
Scope and Sequence
The workshop will cover some of the basics of the spear in the first session, however, we will quickly move into intermediate and advanced techniques and plays.
Students can be completely new to spear fencing and armor, but should be physically coordinated and have some basic experience with a HEMA related martial art/weapon (e.g., rapier, longsword, sword and buckler, etc.)
Students do not need to attend all three sessions, however, the first is required as we will cover safety expectations.
Equipment
At minimum participants need face/head protection (such as a fencing mask), back of the head protection, gloves, and throat protection.
Armor is highly recommended for your learning experience, but not required.
Weapons
Limited loaner spears are available! Please bring your own or a simulator if possible.
The back end of a poleaxe, wooden shafts such as closet rods, etc are decent simulators. Just don't bring anything sharp or small enough to fit into someone's eye slot!
Spears should be between 6-8ft in length.
Cost
$20 per class session - session 1 is a prerequisite.
$40 for two sessions (must include intro session).
$55 for all three.
Already an SDLS student? The workshop is included in your membership! Not a member? Sign up and join the workshop free of charge!
